The Year of Sorrow ('Am al-Huzn)

The Journey to Ta'if
Seeking support in Ta'if, the Prophet (ﷺ) was met with rejection, ridicule, and was physically attacked. Instead of cursing the people, he prayed for their guidance, showing ultimate compassion and patience.
"So, surely with hardship comes ease. Surely with hardship comes ease."

Guarding Purity in Interactions
Idle Talk & Laughter
Islam guides us to protect our hearts. Casual, unnecessary talk and laughing with non-Mahram individuals can be a slippery slope. These interactions can lead to the hardening of the heart, inappropriate thoughts, and are considered steps of Shaytan that lead away from modesty and towards sin.
A Grave Warning
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "It is better for one of you to be stabbed in the head with an iron needle than to touch a woman who is not permissible for him." This powerful hadith illustrates the gravity of even minor physical contact and, by extension, the interactions that lead to it.
Dua for a Pure Heart
A powerful dua to seek protection is:
'Allāhumma innī a’ūdhu bika min sharri sam’ī, wa min sharri baṣarī, wa min sharri lisānī, wa min sharri qalbī, wa min sharri maniyyatī.'
(O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of my hearing, from the evil of my sight, from the evil of my tongue, from the evil of my heart, and from the evil of my desires.)
"And do not approach unlawful sexual intercourse. Indeed, it is ever an immorality and is evil as a way."
